Disney's Volcanis was a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and SCAD. The project consisted of blue sky development of a major retail, dining & entertainment district for  Disney's Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Our team was challenged by WDI to develop a unique RD&E experience for Hong Kong Disneyland. There were several concerns which we were required to consider in our design - the weather conditions of the area, the outstanding shopping opportunities that already exist in Hong Kong, meeting a predetermined quota of hotel rooms, and integration with the first and second gate parks.  We created a story and developed the idea into three distinct districts, which integrate the surrounding landscape, the waters of Penny's bay and the existing theme park and hotels.

Morgan Richardson - story, illustration, production, art direction
Beatriz Coste - land planning, architecture, layout
Maria Barragan - architecture, 3d modeling

Zach Turcich - illustration, story boards, concept design

Working as the concept artist on the project I produced concepts for each of the three districts of the RD&E, and below are the concepts presented as a walkthrough of the RD&E, including the northern entrance to major areas containing retail, entertainment, and the entrances to the first and second gate parks, and concluding with the southern entrance. Below the concept renderings are architectural models produced by Maria and Beatriz.
